Successful Resume Writing, Interviewing & Job Search Techniques, etc.

Are you looking for a job or making a transition? This series of workshops is helpful to people who are conducting a job search or making a career transition. If you would like to be more successful with your job search but you don’t know where to start, these workshops are for you. Even if you’re a seasoned veteran at the job search, you might pick up a few new tips. Attend as many workshops as you wish. Each workshop will present some key ideas and then will allow time for questions, discussion and networking. The facilitator will also be available to review and provide feedback on resumes and cover letters, after the workshop. The workshops are on Thursdays, 9:00-11:00 a.m.   
 
July 9              Resume writing – chronological, functional and combination types of resumes. How to describe your experience. What to include and what to leave off of the resume. How to use your experience to fit the jobs to which you’re applying.
 
July 16            No Program
 
July 23            Writing cover letters, follow up letters and thank you letters. What should you write in a cover letter? How to make it “fit the job.” When do you send follow up letters and thank yous?
 
July 30             Job search techniques – a variety of ways and places to look for jobs. This will
cover online/web-based searches and other methods.
 
August 6          Interviewing skills – do’s and don’ts; Asking questions in the interview; Interview
etiquette and professional dress. Guest Speaker, Dave Monteleone from Career Link.
 
August 13        Networking – What is networking? How and where do people network? How to
use this to your advantage for job search. What are online social networks and how to use them? Guest Speakers, Jane Zavacky from Career Link & Kathleen Treme from United Way.
 
August 20        Recruiters, executive search and temp agencies – Do you know how to work with a recruiter or executive search professional? What can they do for you? How can temp agencies work for you, including for permanent employment? Guest Speakers Jennifer Kidd from Temporary Personnel Services (TPS); Sonya “Sunny” DiGiorno from Integrative Staffing Group (ISG); Lisa Guard from Specialized Staffing; Antoinette Grady of Allstaff; and Debbie Ernst from Career Link.
 
August 27        Electronic/social networking; online profiles – Using social networking sites (LinkedIN, Spoke, Facebook, MySpace) for job search and self-promotion; Developing an online profile and other tips for using the web during job search. We will also be discussing Wage and Salary Negotiation. Guest Speaker, John Fantini from Career Link.
